Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania

What do you think about when you hear “Girl Scouts?” Do you think merit badges, nature hikes, and community service? Or do you start dreaming of crunchy Caramel deLites and peanut buttery Tagalongs? (Because that’s where our heads go!)

We love everything about this organization, so when the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania (GSEP) approached us for help with their Annual Report, we jumped in nose first. The GSEP is the ninth largest Girl Scout Council in the country, with 41,000 girls. As you can imagine, this gives them a lot of great success stories to share!

The GSEP wanted the theme of their 2014 Annual Report to be a field guide, calling attention to the fact that they are so much more than a box of Thin Mints. For over 100 years they’ve been building girls of courage, confidence, and character through programming that appeals to the varying interests of young women.

Running with the field guide theme, we designed the Annual Report to look and feel like a girl’s notebook, making it pocket sized, incorporating nature doodles in the background, and using a font that looks like handwriting.

By taking this approach, we were able to convey that the Girls Scouts are everything and a box of cookies. The GSEP were thrilled with the final product and we’re looking forward to designing their upcoming 2015 and 2016 Annual Reports as well.

“At Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania it is important to us to work with organizations who share our values and interest in making a positive impact on the community. Hearing about HMC’s previous projects, and the criteria by which they choose their clients was totally in line with our core values of diversity, inclusion and innovation. Working with HMC is a possibility thinker’s dream…we asked them to imagine our vision, and they brought it to life.”
