When the Mayor’s Office of New Urban Mechanics saw HMC’s work with Philly DoGooder, they knew that we were the agency for them.
The City was collaborating with Good Company Ventures, Wharton, and the Department of Commerce on a grant application to the Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Mayors Challenge for their Philadelphia Social Enterprise Partnership. And they needed HMC’s creative chutzpah to make their application stand out.
We first appended their 30-page, content-heavy application with an infographic that broke down the most important information into digestible pieces. With an energetic, clean infographic branded in Philadelphia’s colors, our team beat out 300 applicants for a Top 20 finish.
Being a Top 20 finalist is pretty sweet…but winning is even sweeter. For the next round, all finalists created videos and we knew ours had to be the Beyoncé of all entrants: bold, professional, and flawless.
To allow for more freedom and flexibility for that, we decided to produce an animated video. Then, we booked the talent. Not only did Mayor Michael Nutter provide a voice over for the video, but he appeared in it as well.
That’s right: we had the Mayor of Philadelphia challenging the antiquated procurement process, as a cartoon
And it worked! Our client won a $1,000,000 grant, and started the new urban incubator FastFWD.
